Since several years, the Belgian-Dutch Sin Moo Hapkido Association organizes every year an international seminar.
In 2004, 2006 & 2008 our guest was dojunim Ji, Han - Jae.

Last seminar with dojunim Ji Han-Jae:
2 - 4 May 2008

We could count on the participation of several Grandmasters and Masters
such as GM Hank-Shik Shin, GM Juerg Ziegler, and many others,
coming from all over the world!

Read here the report of some marvellous days of Sin Moo Hapkido!

International Sin Moo Hapkido seminar 2008, Belgium.

April/May 2008

The Belgian-Dutch Sin Moo Hapkido and its members get more and more excited.
For the 4th time already, they invited DojuNim Ji, Han-Jae in Belgium.
DojuNim Ji, Han-Jae is the founder of the world known Sin Moo Hapkido system and generally recognized and accepted as the person who invented the Korean Hapkido.
International participants from the USA, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Mauretania and even Somalia were expected.
Thanks to the great commitment of a group of members from the School of Rekem and with special thanks to Mr. Willy Calba, the essential funds were collected to be able to arrange the seminar.
By this we would thank everybody once more, as we would also like to thank our sponsors once more.

Wednesday 30th of May 2008.

The start shot of a splendid Sin Moo Hapkido Seminar was given by Master Sean Bradley, 6th Dan, USA.
A two hour taking private training is a first shot in the rose. All attendants are positive about the interesting exercises and fun on the mats.
Master Bradley gives him selves from his best side. People trained intense and hard, the head is off.
During the training, DojuNim Ji, Han-Jae and his wife Lisa arrives in Rekem and is welcomed by Marleen Willems, wife of GM Rony Dassen. She will take care of the logistics of the whole organization the next few days.
And it may be told, she completed the job in an excellent way. Assisted in this all by a private organization, Prolimo b.i.o., managed by Danny Vranken and Veerle Mertens, all guests were picked up and returned from and to the airport. Also all the other displacements of the guest were for the account of this firm. We would like to thank this person once more too.
The same evening, after the training, everybody ate together at home and conversations about birds and bees (and sometimes Hapkido) filled the first evening.
DojuNim Ji, Han-Jae, Lisa and Sean Bradley, together with the Dassen family, is it possible to have a more pleasant evening?

Thursday the 1st of May 2008

In the early morning, conversations between Rony Dassen, Steven Dassen, Sean Bradley and DojuNim Ji, Han-Jae about SMH and here place in the world took place. This makes very clear that DojuNim has a clear view on the future and the heritage of his Martial art.

Grandmaster Hank-Shik Shin arrives in Belgium. The vice-president of the "World Sin Moo Hapkido Association" arrives for the first time in Belgium and is surprised about the good pick-up service and hospitality in our family.
I had my selves already two times the opportunity to meet this interesting, instructive and kind person in the USA, where we had some nice training-moments together.
With his son in law too I spend some nice moments already.
At home, Sean and Steven enjoyed their time together, talking about their visions and what was going on in Sin Moo Hapkido, but also discussing University-life and so on.
Pretty soon it got clear that things clicked between those two young guys.
Also DojuNim Ji, Han-Jae and Lisa enjoyed the hospitality of their host Marleen Willems.

Friday 2nd of May 2008.

In the afternoon, the first seminar day was planned for members from Belgium. A big scale of techniques passed.
Everybody present at this day was convinced by DojuNim about the efficiency of Sin Moo Hapkido.
Later that evening, the very youngest members of our association got the chance to attend an extraordinary experience by training with DojuNim.
The day was ended with a well deserved, self-prepared Korean supper at the home of the family Dassen.
Looking back on a wonderful day everybody got to sleep.

Saturday and Sunday 3 & 4 May 2008.

In the sports complex of the university of Liège / Luik we welcome we a.o.

DoJunim Ji, Han-Jae - 10° Dan - USA
Grandmaster Hank-Shik Shin - 9° Dan - USA - vice-president World Sin Moo Hapkido Association
Grandmaster Egil Fosslien - 9° Dan - USA
Grandmaster Jeurg Ziegler - 9° Dan - Zwitserland - Headmaster for Europe & Switserland
Grandmaster Walter Hubman - 8° Dan - Oostenrijk - Headmaster for Austria & Hungary
Headmaster Rafaël Balbastre - 7° Dan - Spanje - Headmaster for Spain & Latin America
Headmaster Nicolas Tacchi - 7° Dan - France - Headmaster for France, French Polynesia, French speaking Switzerland & Africa.
Master Sean Bradly - 6° Dan - USA
Master Rémi Mollet - 6° Dan - France
Instuctor Miklos Hodosi - 4° Dan - Hungary, in charge for Hungary
Assistant Ouls Ahmed Sidi - 2° Dan - Zwitserland, in charge for Mauretanië
...

With the assistance of several present Grandmasters en Master from all over the world, DojuNim gave the best of him selves.
The whole scale of Kicking-techniques passed by, followed by an intense study and explanation of the different techniques. Also for the higher qualified among us, this were still some interesting moments.
This all was followed by a scale of hand-techniques, accomplished with the latest details. This was another scene of eyebrow frowning for some among us. Many had forgotten their finesse in some exercises and interpreted them in their own way.
Therefore it is every time again a good experience to see a person like DojuNim explaining all those exercises in detail again. Seminar after seminar I'm stunned that he brings over all the details one by one to everybody on the seminar again and again, no matter of it is a seminar in the USA or anywhere else. Sometimes the numbering changes a little, yet the techniques are still identical over the last 10 or 12 years. Despite his progressed age (71), he surprises us still with his power, efficiency and inventiveness. Nice to see at all the local and foreign seminars.

With a high tempo, all participants trained intensively during these two days?
Much to learn or the students and also nice to get an idea of what there is still waiting in Sin Moo Hapkido for everybody.
At the end of the seminar, DojuNim held a rather surprising speech in the presence of all Master and Grandmasters. Hereby he declared very clearly that the future of Sin Moo Hapkido is up to the youth.

Citation of DojuNim Ji, Han-Jae: "I Promote Steven Dassen now as 6th Degree (Master), despite his youthful age, because of his technical skills. At appropriate times I will promote him to Grandmaster, so that he together with Sean Bradley could follow me up in the future."

After a nice closing-evening with a splendid dinner at Maastricht, the seminar got closed.
In short: a nice and instructive event to everybody under a positive minded environment of all participants.
Friendships were made or renewed. Sin Moo Hapkido showed there is waiting a big and nice future.
Lasts me only to pronounce a special word of thanks to all participants of this 2008 seminar in Belgium. Without your presence, we could not have made such a nice event of it.

A special word of thanks to DojuNim Ji, Han-Jae who promoted me to 9th Degree Sin Moo Hapkido, under the approval of Vice-president GM Hank-Shik Shin.
